Detox CentersIt’s no easy task working up the courage to start treatment.  One of the main fears that might come to one’s mind is the fear of going through detox.  When it comes to substance abuse one of the main reasons that drug dependency continues in a person’s life is the fear of going through withdrawal.  Symptoms of withdrawal coincide with many different factors such as:

  • Length of time abusing the substance
  • Type of substance abused
  • Method of abuse (snorting, smoking, injecting, or swallowing)
  • Amount taken each time
  • Family history and genetic makeup
  • Medical and mental health factors

There are also varying degrees of withdrawal symptoms depending upon what substances are being abused.  For example, an individual who is suffering from withdrawal as a result of heroin or opiates abuse would experience early symptoms that would generally be considered flu-like symptoms such as muscle aches, tearing, runny nose, yawning, insomnia, agitation, anxiety, and sweating.  After the initial withdrawal, there are more severe conditions that follow which include: nausea and vomiting, chills or goose bumps, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and dilated pupils.

Detox Doesn’t Have to Be Scary

Looking at these conditions, it’s not difficult to see why someone who is suffering from a substance abuse situation, wouldn’t be entirely inclined at the idea of going through a detox program.  However, there are places to go that have resources to help patients get through this extremely difficult time.  Christian detox centers offer assistance in the form of medication.  Properly prescribed medication can help alleviate the symptoms associated with detox withdrawal.  Christian detox centers also offer programs such as sub-acute detox, which is ideal for those with less severe withdrawal symptoms, or might not have been suffering from drug dependency for a long period of time.  This might be an ideal pathway for those who do not need to be hospitalized during their detox period.

Christian drug detox services also include resources to help assists with a patient’s overall quality of life.  When it comes to detox for women, supportive services such as family therapy can provide a great amenity to patients after their period of detoxification.  Knowing family members and friends will be there to provide a steady source of reinforcement can be key for a patient as they undergo their recovery.  It is important to find a facility that offers services and programs that you feel is best for either yourself or someone you know who is suffering from a substance abuse.  Gender specific programs and facilities can help in assisting potential patients to find even more specific programs that could be beneficial in assisting those suffering to make a full recovery.

Women’s Needs Must Be Met

Detox for women will greatly differ that the experience than that of detox for men.  When treating women with addiction issues, certain factors come into consideration such as family and spousal relationships, as well as any possible trauma that could have led to the beginning of a patient’s drug addiction.  By examining some of these different circumstances professional staff at these facilities can help hone in on patient specific issues so that they might be addressed during their recovery.

With knowing that there is help available, hopefully, the fear of beginning the journey can become a little less intimidating.  It’s not an easy process, but knowing some of the services at one’s disposal as well as the support of family and friends we can make a difference and further people on their pathway to breaking whatever addiction is holding them back from a happy and healthy life.
